Sailing on
We are sorry to inform you that Swiss sailor Gunther Schmidt-Ginzkey has passed away at the age of 85. Gunther had a large part in building the Yngling Class to what it is today. In the 80:s and 90:s he held the presidency of the Swiss Yngling Class and later the IYA. In 1996 he was elected honorary member of the IYA. Gunther will be missed by sailing friends around the world.

The Dutch Dominate the Worlds
6 different nations in the top ten in a close fleet in Brunnen, Switzerland where the Netherlands dominated the top and took all the podium places. The World Champions are Hidde-Jan HAVEN, Don VAN AREM and Auke VAN DER WERF Denmark defended the Youth Europeans title. All images from the regatta is available at the Facebook page. Full Results.

The Springtime European Championship have been sailed in Riva del Garda with 30 teams from 7 nations. Final Results, Video, Images.

Entry open for Europeans
The Notice of Race and on line entry is now available for the Europeans in Riva del Garda 1-4 May. As usual the Riva facilities can be used for teams wishing to train the days before the regatta. It will one start in one fleet but the Youth (U23) teams will also have their separate result list teams. The entry fee for Youth teams reduced.

Dutch Defend titel at Worlds
Going in to the last raceday with 7 points separation between the top 4 boats the Worlds was finally won by Dutch crew Maarten JAMIN, Jaap SMOLDERS and Menno BERENS, repeating their win from 2011. Full results, images and more at the 2012 Worlds Website.

2012 Worlds and Youth Gold Cup in Sydney
Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron together with AIYA will host the Youth Gold Cup 27-29 December and the Open Worlds 2-8 January 2012. Event information, NoR and more can be found at the 2012 Worlds Website.







Reminder from the Chief Measurer, Deck Beam Connections. The Association became aware that late in 2010 some boats presenting for measurement at World Championships had their deck beams connected to the hull which is in contravention to the Construction  Rules. All owners and skippers should check that their boats do not contravene the rules, if they do need rectification, they should contact the Chief Measurer for detailed instructions.

2011 Open Worlds and Youth Europeans
The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark were rewarded with the medals during the Open Worlds and Youth Europeans in Attersee, Austria. Maarten JAMIN won his second World Champion title with crew Menno BERENS and Jaap SMOLDERS. Results, reports and images can be found at the Worlds website


July 2011

Future Championships and New Executive at the Yngling General Meeting
The IYA Annual General Meeting was held at the Union Yacht Club Attersee Clubhouse prior to the World Championship. Among other things future regattas was decided. Henrik Gravesen stepped down after 7 years as President for the Class and was replaced by Mattias Dahlstrom SWE. New Vice President is Beer van Arem NED. Both Mattias and Beer have long experience of the class and look forward to future challenges.

Entry open for 2011 Springtime European Championship
The Springtime Europeans 4-7 May in Riva, Lake Garda is the first opportunity for a major Yngling Championship next year. As usual Ynglings are welcome for training the week before. On line entry is now open here. Already entered boats here

From the 1st January 2011 all new sails have to have the blue IYA Sail Label. If you have old unused red sail labels, contact your NYA or IYA to have them replaced with blue labels.

Gold Medals for USA and Denmark
The 2010 Yngling Open World Championship is over and was won by the American crew John Ingalls, Bruce Chafee and Torey Pellegrini. The week before Torey Pellegrini had also secured a Silver medal at the Youth European Championship that was won by the Danish crew Lucas Leir, Emil Max Moller and Konrad Floryan.
